Twilight was published last year and has become an increasingly popular book for teenagers. Twilight is a story that combines suspense, lust, and vampire romance. This book may be long, but don’t let that stop you from reading because each page is enticed by the touching and compelling romance between Bella and Edward.
This book talks a great deal about vampires and how they interact with mankind. In Twilight, a pair of star-crossed lovers takes their love life into a whole new level. After Twilight became such a huge success, an explosion of Young Adult vampire books also emerged.
“I like Twilight because it is different from other books I read. This one talks about vampires falling in love with human beings,” said sophomore Cynthia Ibarra.
Bella, a beautiful girl who just arrived in Forks town comes upon Edward Cullen’s, a really socially awkward person who never talks or anything, One day she sits next to him in a Biology class and finds herself drawn to his appearance. She begins to grow attached to him and as they develop feelings for each other, Bella learns Edward’s secret.
Edward and his family are vampires, but they do not hunt down humans as their source of food. Instead they lust after and consume animal blood. Bella adores Edward and despite his origins, she goes out of her way to stay with him. Most readers have argued that Bella and Edward are just attracted to each other, while others believe that it may be love at first sight.
“I think that Bella and Edward fell in love too quick, so it’s probably love at first sight,” said junior John Khu, while freshman Christine Sanchez has this to say, “I don’t think that their relationship is love at first sight, but Bella is being attracted to Edward.
Edward’s family welcomes Bella with open arms and makes her part of the family, but with the amount of time she spends with his family, danger strikes. While they are picnicking, a group of roving vampires approaches Bella with bad intentions. One vampire, in particular, has become fixated on her and has a ferocious thirst for her blood.
Bella is now in grave danger and it is Edward and his family’s duty to protect her along the way from those vampires.
“I like Edward because he knows he is responsible for Bella’s life. He’s a responsible guy,” said freshman Nicole Gonzales.
Stephanie Meyer, the author of Twilight has stated that the red apple on the cover represents Bella and Edward’s love, which is forbidden, similar to the fruit of the “Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.” Bella has two choices to make; she can either partake of the forbidden fruit, implying Edward Cullen and finds herself in serious danger or she can move further into the relationship.
Are Bella and Edward defying the laws of nature with their forbidden relationship?
“Their love is forbidden because they are different species,” said sophomore Cynthia Ibarra.
The romance between Bella and Edward in a third-person perspective may be forbidden, yet in the perspective of these characters it is not. There is a gloomy feel to their impossible love, but this won’t stop Bella and Edward from giving up hope that their relationship is ill fated.
Forget any romance you have read before, Twilight is a must. This book is so unique and enjoyable it is almost like Vampire romance is a new favorable genre to majority.
